Dr. Eric Fillinger was raised in Southern Ohio and attended Cedarville University for his undergraduate degree.  While there, he excelled in Cross-country and Track and earned All-American honors in both sports all four years.  In his senior year, he sustained an injury to his foot which introduced him to the specialty of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.

Upon completion of his undergraduate studies he attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, OH.  While there, he was exposed to faculty from University Hospitals of Cleveland, Cleveland Clinic, and Sinai Medical Center.

Upon completing his graduate degree, he was accepted into a three year podiatric medicine and surgery residency at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan.  This is considered one of the premier foot and ankle residencies and is affiliated with the Michigan State University and Wayne State University.  This training exposed him to advanced surgical treatments for reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle and ultimately led to his board certification by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

His areas of clinical interest and expertise include limb salvage of the diabetic foot, reconstruction of the arthritic foot, advanced techniques in repair of the traumatized foot (including vascular and neurologic repair).  And although these are areas of interests for Dr. Fillinger, he also does do preventative care and non-operative treatment of the foot.

Dr. Fillinger came to Cullman in 1998 upon completion of his residency and immediately joined Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Specialists.  He is married and has two boys.  His interest include running, golf, and softball.  He also is active in his local church where he teaches several classes.
